"Torment" – Lauren Kate

7740152After what happened at Sword & Cross, Lucinda Price is moved to a different school in California where she will be safe and protected from those who are trying to kill her. Since Daniel continues to hide and keep secrets from her regarding her past, she has no choice but to branch out on her own and uncover them for herself. As she starts to learn more about herself, she realizes the past is the only key to unlocking her future. Continuing on the story of the two star-crossed lovers, the second book of the Fallen series will leave you wanting more.

First, I would like to apologize to my readers. My next few blogs are going to be reviews on books in these two series I started. (Fallen series and Delirium series) But you know once you start a series, you have to finish it. Especially these types of series. I can’t just quit now that I started. So I promise you, once this series is done I’ll go on and read something different, but for now, just bear with me…

I think I like this second book a lot more than the first for some reason. Again Luce is juggling two guys. I don’t know how she’s able to attract the attention of so many men (hey Luce, mind sharing your secret?) Anyway this book gave me a little more clues to help me solve this mystery of her past. I have come up with a theory…but I won’t share it for fear of spoiling the book for you. I just am going to keep my theory to myself and see if I’m right along the way.

I don’t know why, but I’m attracted to Cam a lot more in this book even though he’s not even a main character. Maybe it’s the tough ruggedness of him or how brutally honest he is, I don’t know. There’s just something about him in this book that makes me more attracted to him than to Daniel. Daniel comes off as too controlling in this book (which I can understand why, but still, there’s a limit and he’s pushing it a little too far in my opinion) He wasn’t as bad in the first book but in this one, he’s a little too distant and over-controlling for me. I didn’t like him so much in this book.

And Miles…Miles is so cute. Not in like a “hotness” kind of sense (like Cam) but cute in like a “puppy dog” kind of way. I just think he’s adorable and I hope they don’t kill off his character in this series because I really like him. He can be really sensitive, sweet, and romantic. He just seems like the perfect guy for Luce or for any girl for that matter.

Another thing I really liked about this book is finally Luce is breaking free! It’s about time. She’s finally going out on her own and making her own decisions for herself. She’s doing her own research to discover her past all on her own, and actually achieving some answers. All I have to say to that is it’s about time! I’ve been waiting for some answers.

SPOILER ALERT: (Next section is a spoiler if you haven’t started this series or finished reading the first book. So DO NOT read below if you haven’t even read the first book yet.)

I also like how Lauren Kate didn’t just drop Penn completely off the grid. I like how she still refers back to her even though Penn’s not alive anymore. It makes the story seem more real even if it’s still in that fantasy sense. Because there’s no way a girl can get over her best friend’s death so quickly nor just forget about her completely. So I like how she puts some real emotion into Luce when Luce thinks about Penn or visits Penn’s grave. It makes the character more relatable that way. For me, it also makes the author seem more admired and respected that way for not killing off a character completely.
